COVID-19 is exacerbating gender equality challenges in academia

A recent post from the American Psychological Association summarized research findings on COVID-19 and gender equality in academia. Women are reporting that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities in academic research, including work-life balance challenges like domestic responsibilities and child care. Further, women are submitting fewer publications as primary author. These challenges also exist for female graduate students, who often have family responsibilities of their own and who may be experiencing the trickle-down effects of reduced productivity from their female mentors.
